Miami, FL - The Bas Fisher Invitational is proud to present the first solo show of the dynamic Performance Artist Jenna Balfe. "Objects Found Dying, Trying to Live Again," includes a video of the artist's spastic dance-like movements around places within her home and throughout her day to day environment. The video is screened within a poetic installation chronicaling her journeys through the natural environment, ranging from long walks from place to place, to kayaking from island to island picking up items along the way. The artist describes this work as being comprised of, "Desolate worn objects. There is no better creator than nature trying to bring parts of her back home, wearing away at these objects that we have created for a life to keep us dry from the rain and clean from the dirt.  This idea of art the object will be explored through mediums of performance, video, sound, drawing, and progressive sculpture.  There will be two openings for this show. During this time, there will be work done to the objects in the space, in accordance to the writing on the walls."

Each opening reception will include a performance wherein the artist will place herself for sale within the context of other random actions rooted in her conflict with adding additional objects to a world already oversaturated by manufactured products, images, and power structures.

Born and Raised in Miami, Balfe's practice spans from performance, fashion, art, and music. She was the curator of the art exhibition and happening "Come as You Are," in memorium of the 10 year anniversary of Kurt Cobain's suicide in 2004. Balfe has staged many performances including "Performance Art at the Box," at the alternative art space the Box in 2004, "The Blue Show," at the Dorsch Gallery in 2003, and during the exhibition "Manifest Destiny," an show of all women artists curated by Anat Egbi in 2002.
